“Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” 1 Thessalonians 5:14-22 (NKJV)
We should find out how are we quenching the Holy Spirit and despising the prophecies to stop doing that abomination further in our lives. The verses above says we should do certain spiritual activities carefully, namely —
- Warn the unruly,
- Comfort the faint hearted,
- Uphold the weak,
- Be patient with all,
- Render no evil to evil,
- Pursue good for yourselves and for all,
- Rejoice always,
- Pray without ceasing,
- In everything give thanks,
- Test all things,
- Hold fast to good,
- Abstain from all kinds of evil.
When we do all the above, we will not quench the Holy Spirit and we will understand the prophecies given by Him through God fearing people. Prophecies are there for us to accept, understand and expect them to happen. Many denominational churches do not give importance to the Holy Spirit or the prophetic ministries, which is very wrong and this is hurting the Lord God and His Ways are not followed, which ultimately lead them to their own destruction.
“For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honour and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:16-21 (NKJV)
