Jesus said, “But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me. Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more. Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.” John 16:7-11(NLT)
When the Holy Spirit comes, He will convict us of sin, righteousness and judgment:
- Sin: After Jesus took victory over Adam’s sin that entered into human race and those who believe in Jesus will be set free from those sins. Then what kind of sin the Holy Spirit will convict people is that the sin of not believing in Jesus Christ. So at present sin according to God is not putting our trust in Jesus and His finished work on the Cross. Many among Christians are still under this wrong belief that God is angry with them and punishing them. Even as a Christian if your belief and trust is not on the Lord Jesus, then you are committing sin.
- Righteousness: It is the gift of God’s righteousness that is available to us because Jesus went back to God, His Father. If you are still depending on your own righteous act to get blessings from God, then you are wrong. God is pleased with us because we believed in Jesus and not because of our own good deeds. This we all should remember and do not boast on our good works, but humble ourselves to receive the free gift of righteousness from God, which is available through the Blood of Jesus.
- Judgement: The ruler of this world, the devil is the one who was judged already by the Lord Jesus, who took victory over the Hades, the hell; where the devil and the fallen angels were thrown in. Hell should not be the destiny of human beings, but when you vehemently refuse to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour, then you will also end up in hell.
These revelations come from the power of the Holy Spirit alone. Without His help we cannot understand or follow the teachings of the Lord God. So we should pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit more than all the material things you might need for the day to day life. Fast and pray that you receive your companion and comforter the Holy Spirit.
