Personal Relationship With God

We see all the commandments of God is related to Relationship. Matthew 22:34-40(ESV) 

  1. You have to love God with all of your heart, all of your soul, all of your mind and all your strength. 
  2. Love your neighbour as yourself.

 How is relationship maintained? Neither just getting married, nor having a child.  A relationship is maintained by spending time with each other, talk, laugh, cry and listen. You agree with each other. Amos 3:3(ESV). Find out likes, dislikes. Knowing each others character or personality.

God likes to Speak to Man all the time.Eg. Adam.   Genesis 3:8(ESV) God came seeking Adam in the cool hours to talk to him.  Adam hid himself when he disobeyed God.

We don’t hear God.  But it looks like God does not talk to us.  Actually we do not want to have anything with God except to give some Request List to God like a shopping list and we walk away. Prayer should be a dialog.  Not a monolog.  We need to speak and wait in expectation for God to speak back. Sit with God just to be with Him not to get anything from Him. JESUS SAID   “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27 (ESV)

There are many voices that we hear in this world.

  1. Voices of people around you saying to you what they think you are.
  2. Voice of your own heart saying things about you.
  3. Voice of the Devil; who condemns you or makes you think you are wrong. 
  4. VOICE OF GOD; who calls you HIS BELOVED CHILD.

“On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” (Matthew 7:22-23) Luke 13:24-28(ESV)  Here we see that all depend on how closer and intimate relationship we have with God and not about our achievements even in operating spiritual gifts.

How to have relationship with God?

  1. SEEK GOD: –  Jeremiah 33: 3  Ask God questions.  Seek God personally.  One to one.  Not in a crowd.  Not even in a company of two. Eg.  Sadhu Sundar Singh. He got up everyday at 4 a.m. took bath sat in a room alone and asked the real God to show up and JESUS appeared to him in a bright light. And spoke to him in an audible voice. Even to non-believers God appeared and answered them.
  2. WORD OF GOD : –   II Peter 1: 20, 21 Ask God Meanings.  Read the Bible and find out Who is God?  What is His likes and dislikes?  What is His character?  (God is full of mercy & grace. God is long suffering.  God is consuming fire.  God is love. God is a jealous God.)  What He wants from you?  What He wants you not to do? 
  3. SPEAK IN TONGUES & LISTEN: –  I Corinthians 14: 2 Ask God Interpretation.   Ask God to give the interpretation of what the mysteries you are speaking with the Spirit of God. Holy Spirit is illustrated as Tongues of fire.  What a fire can do? Warmth –  Fire place, Light  –  Lamp, Cook – Stove. If you do not control the fire and not use it properly only destruction happens. Holy Spirit of God resides in you. Not an Imaginary friend – Real friend- JESUS you have in you so have fellowship with God all the time.  That is what Bible calls as “Prayer without ceasing.”
