“But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles Lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”” Mark 10:35-45(NKJV)
Two of Jesus’ disciples -James and John wanted positions for themselves on the right and left hand of Jesus when He is ruling in glory. But He told the disciples that God had prepared in advance to whom such positions will be given. So we see the Kingdom of God is operating in a different principle and it is good for us. Our job is to do God’s work sincerely pleasing to Him alone and leaving the rest to God to judge and give the rewards accordingly. Our God is not like worldly people who do injustice to sincere people. So nothing to worry, but to trust God and wait in hope.
“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:5-11 (NKJV)
Jesus did the same when He was on earth and did everything with grace and truth trusting God. He gave His life on the Cross, giving up His soul in the hands of God, believing He is faithful to raise Him from the dead. The same God who rose Jesus from the dead and seated Him on His right Hand will do the same to us, who wants to trust and obey Him in all things according to the grace given to each one of us. No need to compete with each other, but work as fellow servants in the Body of Christ.
“Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.” John 13:1-17(NKJV)
