“Then the disciples of John reported to him concerning all these things. And John, calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” When the men had come to Him, they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to You, saying, ‘Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?’ ” And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight.” Luke 7:18-21 (NKJV)
“Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”” Luke 7:22-23 (NKJV); Luke 2:33-34(NKJV)
Jesus is the Son of God who came to do God’s work and He finished His work ascended to heaven, now seated on the right hand of God’s Throne and is going to come again to take home those who followed Him sacrificially realising what He did to them. What are the good works done by Jesus when He was physically on earth and what He does as Holy Spirit through the anointed believers even now? Matthew 15:29-31(NKJV)
- Blind see Mark
- Lame walk
- Leper healed
- Deaf hear
- Dead raised to life
- Gospel is preached to the poor
Glory to God! These were the sign given to the people in those days in the Jewish scriptures to indicate who would be their messiah. That is why in the above passage John the Baptist confirms by sending his disciples to Jesus, who was his cousin by birth.
“Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.” Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.” Isaiah 35:4-6 (NKJV); Isaiah 29:18-21(NKJV); Isaiah 42:5-9(NKJV)
The above verses in the prophetic words of Isaiah concerning Jesus as their messiah. There are so many other prophecies of Jesus’ first coming and also about His second coming in their scriptures. Therefore till now one group of people are offended and are cursed but one group people have believed and blessed. Which group are we is the question everyone got to ask themselves. Because many among the so called believers are not following the teachings of Jesus and become His disciples to get blessed.
Jesus answered and said to them, “Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honour Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”” Matthew 15:7-9 (NKJV); Isaiah 29:13(NKJV)
“Then His disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?” But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.”” Matthew 15:12-14 (NKJV)
