The spirit behind the idols are demons:
“Do I mean then that food sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons. Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he? 1 Corinthians 10:19-22 (NIV); Isaiah 44:9-11(NIV)
We should be very careful distinguishing ourselves and not participate in the rituals of any idol worshiping by receiving the food given there. Yoga practices are also one kind of worshiping all kinds of demonic spirits in every position and names of animals are given to each yoga position representing the pagan gods. Even I thought they are exercises and participated unknowingly and got into trouble. The Lord Jesus revealed to me my mistake and I repented. We cannot take these things lightly by participating the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons and bring Lord Jesus’ anger on us.
“Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him. But their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell. They have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but cannot walk, nor can they utter a sound with their throats. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.” Psalms 115:3-8 (NIV); Isaiah 46:1-3(NIV)
Idol worship was eradicated from Europe:
“And you see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia. He says that gods made by human hands are no gods at all. There is danger not only that our trade will lose its good name, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be discredited; and the goddess herself, who is worshiped throughout the province of Asia and the world, will be robbed of her divine majesty.”” Acts 19:26-27 (NIV); Jeremiah 10:3-14(NIV)
Idol worshiping was going on most of the part of Asia Minor and all over the ancient world, except in some parts they worshipped their ancestors, even that is not correct. When apostle Paul preached the gospel— that God who is in heaven came in flesh as Jesus Christ and paid His own Body and Blood as a final atonement for the sins of the world, and rose again from the dead, so that we can all be set free and receive the righteousness from Him as free gift — people got saved in multitudes and the idol worship was stopped to this day in Europe, which is the modern world in those areas. This gospel, good news spread to the rest of the world in all other continents, but in India and other neighbouring small countries are still there.
““Gather together and come; assemble, you fugitives from the nations. Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood, who pray to gods that cannot save. Declare what is to be, present it— let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Saviour; there is none but me. “Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:20-22 (NIV); Isaiah 41:21-29(NIV)
