First of all read the Bible and know what pleases God the most. Secondly you ask God and check with Him all the time to make sure you are walking according to His guidance. “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:5-8 (ESV)
There are 3 things that enslaves people and pulling them away from walking according to Holy Spirit. Many overlook these as small things and get into snares.
1 Slaves to the World: 1 Timothy 6:6-8(ESV) ;
People are attracted by what they see in the world- the riches, fame and material things. These things you see other people have but you could not. This bothers you constantly. Now you are slaves to Covetousness and many other sins follow if you encourage yourself. If that’s the case then you are under attack to bring your mind into a kind of slavery. One should not have the same things others have. You might have something greater than that which the other person does not have and you are not noticing. God has provided you already what you need and you are not valuing them as you should be. Learn to be content with what you already have and praise God.
2 Slaves to the Flesh: 1 Corinthians 6:13 (ESV)
Whatever the flesh demands, people tend to give it to it. In this way you feed it and make it strong and later that controls you big time. Now you are slave to Gluttony not alone to sexual immorality. Same way if we feed your spirit with Word of God and power, then we feed our spirit and make it strong. It is upto us to which we are feeding. We fast by not eating during prayer time sometimes. This is to bring your flesh into control and not to manipulate God. In fasting you tell your body to listen to you and not the other way around.
3. Slaves to Devil: John 8: 44(ESV)
Devil tells you not to believe what is written in the Word of God. He always explains things to you in scientific way, many things which is clearly opposite to what is written in the Word. But it is upto us to make sure that we believe the Truth written in the Bible than the facts other sources trying to dictate to you. Which Book are you reading more? Then that will have an upper hand over you than the other. That’s why we should read the Bible and listen to good sermons and meditate on it more than we read and listen to worldly teachings.
If you understand these 3 areas and get delivered, then you can walk more freely and be of good use to God and His purposes. Do not waste time going around not knowing what is controlling you, but come in alignment with God quickly. Holy Spirit of God is ready to help you in your journey. Take His help by constantly course correcting yourself, so that you can be of good use to the Kingdom of God.
“I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:19-23 (ESV)
