So Self-existence or Independence is what the world believes freedom is all about and makes plans to get it. If they could get in some way or other they feel good and think they achieved freedom. We too sing songs of these Bible verses “Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom” II Corinthians 3:17 “It is for freedom Christ has set us free” Galatians 5:1 Do we really know what freedom is? The Bible talks about different kinds of freedom what you need and that Jesus came to give to you. Isaiah 61:1-3(ESV) . Jesus took up this verse and read out in the synagogue proclaiming this good news. Luke 4:18-19(ESV) . I would like to give you three important things from which our Lord Jesus set us free.
- JESUS SET US FREE FROM SIN.
Sin was revealed to us by the Law- Ten commandments. “Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:34-36 (ESV). Jesus set us free from sin and eternal death if you believe in Him. “God will credit righteousness for us who believe in Him who raised JESUS our Lord from dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” Romans 4:24-25(NIV). We should accept our complete forgiveness first and we also forgive others as Jesus forgave us. Colossians 3:12-14(NIV).
2. JESUS SET US FREE FROM FEAR.
Jesus set us free from fear of death, losing our health and wealth, and having all kinds of anxiety, doubt and worry. Because through JESUS we have a Father – Son relationship with GOD. We don’t earn our blessings, they are given free from Our Father in Heaven. We are included in the family of God so all things we receive freely. “For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” Romans 8:15-17 (ESV) We should use the authority of being children of GOD and behave like one, like a supernatural being.
3. JESUS SET US FREE FROM WORK.
You are under Grace not Works. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV). We are given a Sabbath rest from all religious activities trying to please GOD. “So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.” Hebrews 4:9-11 (ESV) What disobedience? They who heard the gospel did not combine it with faith to enter into GOD’S REST. Hebrews 4:1-2(ESV) What God did? God created the world and rested. Jesus said, “It is finished” on the Cross and rested. We should also Rest in Faith.
According to God.
1) Not believing in JESUS is sin – John 16:7-11(ESV)
2) Not acting like a child of GOD, using your authority believing in Jesus’ Words; is your failure – Mark 11:22-24(ESV)
3) Work of God is to believe in JESUS – John 6:27-29(ESV)
Now it all boils down to our belief system. What we believe is where our freedom rests on. If we do not believe and be what Jesus says what we are & what we can do; we have no freedom. Let us not be satisfied till we achieve this. Jesus said we can do greater things than He did. John 14:12(ESV)
