Now it is very clear that we should know God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent to have eternal life. But the question arise what is the meaning of knowing God. Many who had heard and read about Jesus Christ’s life on earth also would say that they know Him. And the real followers also will say that they know who the Lord Jesus is for them. But the Word of God answers all the questions with the Word of God only, which is authentic than just someone giving a commentary. So let us read who are false and who are the true people, who say they know Jesus and Father God.
“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” 1 John 2:1-6 (NKJV)
These verses clarify that those who say that they know Jesus and keep His Commandments are true, but those who say that they know Him but do not keep His Commandments are the liars. Because only when they obey His Commandments, the love of God is fully operate through them and others are only confessing falsely that they know Him. If God Himself abides in a person, then of course that person should have changed their lifestyle as the Lord Jesus’. The Spirit of the Lord residing in a person, the Holy Spirit will empower that person to lead a holy life like the Lord for sure. If one cannot lead a life like Jesus Himself then it is very clear that they have not got the Holy Spirit, but have the spirit of the world.
“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”1 Corinthians 2:12-14 (NKJV)
So let us examine ourselves and the things we follow, the traditions taught in the churches, by comparing to the written words in the Bible in the New Testament. The church you go has to follow exactly what the Lord Jesus gave instructions and the patterns His disciples followed: if not you are on the wrong. So make sure you know your Bible — like your text books and how you spent your whole life, time and strength to learn them properly, being on your own to face the examinations —and do what your Bible says to attain eternal life.
