John the baptist was greater than all the Old Testament prophets:
Jesus said, ““Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Matthew 11:11-15 (NKJV)
All old testament prophets were prophesying the plans and purposes of God for the future. Unless they spoke and wrote about the plans, God was not having any access to the world, because man had the authority over the physical world. So men of God had to prophesy so that God who was in the spirit world could take those prophesies and make them happen. John the baptist in the new testament was the one preached the good news of gospel and was privileged to talk about Jesus and could point to Jesus saying ‘Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world’.
True followers of Jesus’ Commandments are greater than John the baptist:
Jesus said, “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:18-19 (NKJV)
Disciples of Jesus, the Christians who preach the gospel for the Kingdom of God to be established on earth as it is in heaven, are considered the greatest of all the prophets before them including John the baptist according to our Lord Jesus Christ. What a blessing to have this position under Jesus and He also explains if we are not only preach but also can keep all His Commandments, then we are called great in the kingdom of heaven. Glory to God. Every believer should be a preacher of the gospel of grace and should have obeyed all the Commandments Jesus told them to follow. This is our goal and we should try our best to somehow attain it in this lifetime God has graciously given to us.
He who endures to the end shall be saved:
“And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24:4-14 (NKJV)
