Matthew 11:25-29(ESV) According to these verses no one knows Jesus, except God and no one knows God except Jesus and to those Jesus is willing to reveal. Our job is to go to Jesus, sit with Him and learn from Him who is ‘gentle and lowly in heart’ to have Eternal Life which starts in your soul from then on. John 5:39-40(ESV) “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” I John 2:3-6 NKJV.
We should know who God is by understanding the characteristics of Jesus:
1.Humility & Obedience: “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:5-8(ESV) In these verses we learn about the ‘humility and obedience’ of Christ Jesus.
2.Love & Patience: “Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.” II Thessalonians 3:5 NKJV “Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus,”Romans 15:5 NKJV These verses shows the ‘Love of God and patience of Jesus’
3. Grace & Mercy: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” II Corinthians 8:9 NKJ Romans 8:11(ESV) “But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.” Luke 6:35-36 NKJV. Jesus and God are full of Grace & mercy towards all mankind alike.
4. Compassion to teach & heal: “But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.” Matthew 9:36; Mark 6:34 NKJV “And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.” Matthew 14:14 NKJV Jesus was ‘moved with compassion’ for the weary, sick and those who went astray.
5. Stayed under God’s Authority & gave Reverence: “So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”; “In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.” Hebrews 5:5-7(ESV)
6. Faith & Love: “and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.” 1 Timothy 1:14-15(ESV)
7. Peace: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27 ESV “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 ESV
