Sin is lawlessness :
“Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.” 1 John 3:4 (ESV)
“For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.” James 1:23-25 (ESV)
Captives and oppressed:
Whatever we are learning in the Bible and hearing instructions from the Holy Spirit residing in you, if you go away, forget entirely and just go about in life changing nothing, is like the person mentioned above, who looks into the mirror and find some dirt on his face or dress but go away and forget to do anything about it. I don’t think anyone will do it. Will he not immediately clean it? Is it not for which he looked into the mirror first to make sure he is clean? But many believers go about their lives not correcting a bit of their habits, which they developed at their young age, even after coming to the Lord, made no alterations.
Jesus gives liberty:
God wants us to liberate us from ourselves of the lawlessness that are in every individual. It is written Jesus came to set us free. Jesus read this passage which was written about Him before He came into the world by prophet Isaiah 61:1-2.
““The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”” Luke 4:18-19 (ESV)
Our responsibility:
We should look into the mirror of God’s Word and do accordingly to receive the liberty extended to you by the grace of God. We should try our best to become the new man God wants us to be.
“But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”Ephesians 4:20-24 (NKJV)
