Put to death your earthly life: Ephesians 4:17-24(ESV)
“Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Colossians 3:5-11(ESV)
Change of direction should have happened in every Born again Christian’s life, which is a ‘u-turn’. You were going along with the world and it’s evil desires; but now you are going towards God’s desires in your life. Without this change you cannot please God, but rather got to face God’s wrath in the end. So we got to get rid of the old bad habits, by the help of God’s power in you through His Spirit, not by will power.
Put on your godly life: Ephesians 4:25-32(ESV)
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” Colossians 3:12-14 (ESV)
We are God’s chosen, holy and beloved children, so put all these wonderful attributes that belongs to God where love is a binding factor to combine all. This transformation is vital in a Christian’s life, without changing yourself completely, you cannot have victory. You got to empty your earthly life completely and should put on godly life. That is why we say – you have to die to yourself and live for Christ.
“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.” Philippians 3:8-11 (ESV)
