Generosity brings harvest of righteousness:
“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” 2 Corinthians 9:8-11 (NIV)
We live in a material world, full of selfish people, who think of themselves only and try to grab as much as possible to satisfy their selfish need and spend on unwanted things and gadgets. This has entered into the church too and we all forgot about the way our forefathers lived a selfless life and were so generous to give to the poor and needy. From the verses above it is clear that God is able to bless only those who are willing to do good work and enlarge the store of those who sow into other people’s life selflessly. So here is another wonderful teaching about getting a harvest of your righteousness in the sight of God. Be generous on every occasion and bring thanksgiving in the mouths of many bringing glory to our God who gives abundantly in the first place. It is all from God we receive and to God should go all the glory.
Do not become weary in doing good:
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:7-10 (NIV)
We see many born again Christians start a new life committing themselves to do good work, later find it difficult to continue looking at the people who misuse their generosity. But when you do a good work, remember the Lord God is taking that into account and credit to your righteousness, even though the person receiving misuse. Because as far as you are concerned you obeyed God and if the person did not obey is not asked from you. Of course you can stop giving later to that person if that behaviour persists. But do not stop doing good discouraged by some, but continue doing good to another person you might find fit. Because if you do not give up, in due time you will receive your harvest for the sowing you did in people’s life.
