- VIRGIN:
“The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,” Genesis 49:10 (NKJV)
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV)
Mary was of the tribe of Judah and was a virgin. So she too was expecting.
2) ACCEPTED THE PREGNANCY:
“Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.” Luke 1:38 (NKJV)
Mary accepted what the angels told her and sang a song. GOD could not do anything on earth without man’s co-operation. So He expected Mary to say ‘yes’ to bring His son into this world. Mary knew very well He was God’s child as she was given more revelation about Him. (Luke 2: 34 through the prophet Simon; Luke 2: 38 through the prophetess Anna)
3) SHE STOPPED JESUS:
When JESUS was 12 years old and in the temple doing God’s work Mary stopped JESUS from pursuing his Father’s business. And God too co-operated with her till He was of age.
“So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.” And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them. Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Luke 2:48-52 (NKJV)
4) SHE TRIED TO START JESUS’ MINISTRY:
Whereas JESUS was 30 years old then, already doing the ministry by selecting His disciples and thus for the wedding his disciples were present. JESUS says ‘no’ at first when Mary asked him to do a miracle, yet He co-operated and agreed to help by doing a miracle.
Jesus at the wedding in Cana:
“On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”” John 2:1-5 (NKJV)
5) JESUS GOT TO DISOWN HIS MOTHER:
Jesus gave her to his disciple John to take care. And Mary agreed.
“When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.” John 19:26-27 (NKJV)
She was with the disciples in the upper room receiving the HOLY SPIRIT.
“Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.” Acts 1:12-14 (NKJV)
6) JESUS’ OPINION ABOUT MOTHER:
What status JESUS gives as His followers? JESUS’ MOTHERS AND BROTHERS.
Luke 11: 27, 28
As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.
He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
Matthew 8: 48-49;
Jesus replied to him, who is my mother, and who are my brothers?
Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Who are my mother and my brother for whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.
Luke 8: 19- 21
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”
See what position He gives to them who obey, do God’s will and put the word of God into practice. These will be called mothers, brothers and sisters of JESUS.
GOD’S LOVE IS MUCH MORE GREATER THAN MOTHER ‘S LOVE. THERE IS NO COMPARISON TO GOD’S LOVE EXPRESSED BY JESUS ON THE CROSS.
““Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you.”Isaiah 49:15 (NKJV)
