“Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.” Jude 1:3 (NIV) “But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.” Jude 1:17-19 (NIV)
When we received salvation, we have the guidance of the Holy Spirit, because we need faith to receive the forgiveness of our sins and to accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. “Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:3 (NIV) Many get satisfied with this and do not go for the anointing and overflowing of the Holy Spirit, by which we receive the prayer language of speaking in tongues as evidence. On the Pentecostal day, the anointing was entirely different and everyone spoke in tongues. “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” Acts 2:4 (NIV) “While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.” Acts 10:44, 46 (NIV) All Christians got to receive this prayer language of speaking in tongues to pray.
“Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good… to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,” 1 Corinthians 12:1, 7, 9 (NIV) “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 14:1-2 (NIV)
We see here, there are nine special gifts of the Holy Spirit apart from the prayer language of speaking in tongues and praying to build ourselves with the power from above. One of the gift is ‘gift of faith’ and this is the main gift you receive from God Himself to operate on, it is not your own faith, which cannot be used for miracles. You need supernatural faith to operate to receive anything miraculous. The Lord God is willing to give anyone who asks, seeks and knocks. If we pursue God’s presence more than your physical needs be met, God will be well pleased to anoint you with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. ““Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”” Luke 11:11-13 (NIV)
“But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, and keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.” Jude 1:20-23 (NIV)
